Aim & Intended Outcomes

Our Therapy Dog Training & Certification Course prepares handlers and their dogs to confidently and safely provide therapy support in hospitals, schools, workplaces, and community settings. Through hands-on, in-person training and assessment, we ensure every team is capable, calm, and reliable in real-world environments.

This course covers safe interactions, legal and ethical responsibilities, and effective handling skills, equipping you to make a positive difference in people’s lives. The result: certified therapy dog teams who bring comfort, joy, and connection to those who need it most.

Please note: We do not offer online therapy dog training or certification. In-person assessment is essential to properly evaluate your dog’s suitability and ensure you’re both ready for the demands of therapy work.

Who It’s For

Graduates of TASAA’s 4-Day Intensive Obedience Course who are passionate about improving lives through animal therapy.

Prerequisites

To enrol in this course, dogs must have completed TASAA’s 4-Day Intensive Obedience Course and demonstrate:

• A two-minute down out of sight

• No jumping (four feet on the floor)

• The ability to remain calm and clear-headed

• Loose lead walking with no pulling

Suitability will be assessed upon completion of the Intensive Obedience Course.

Course Fees

• New Dog & Handler Team: $650

• Therapy Dog Recertification: $450
