TASAA 28 Day Stay and Train Program

The TASAA 28 Day Stay and Train Program is our signature residential puppy training program based in Brisbane, Queensland. Stay and Train is the structured training system TASAA has developed and refined over several years, drawing on Nikki’s 40 years of professional dog training experience.

Designed specifically for young dogs, the program focuses on calm behaviour development, early learning foundations and consistent daily routines within a professionally managed training environment.

More than 1,100 puppies have participated in the TASAA Stay and Train Program. Many families return with new family puppies over the years, and some clients have had two, three and even five different puppies attend the program.

The program was developed by Nikki, a former police dog trainer with extensive experience preparing dogs for advanced working roles requiring focus, stability and control. Her practical experience forms the foundation of TASAA’s calmness first approach, which guides every puppy’s daily structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the TASAA Stay and Train Program?

The TASAA Stay and Train Program is a 28 day residential puppy training program based in Brisbane, Queensland. Puppies live at TASAA’s purpose built training facility while participating in structured daily routines, supervised learning sessions and guided environmental exposure appropriate to their age.

What age can a puppy attend Stay and Train in Brisbane?

Puppies typically attend from 8 weeks of age up to 20 weeks. Older puppies and adolescent dogs may be suitable depending on availability and assessment. Please contact TASAA to confirm suitability for your puppy.

What is calmness training and why is it the foundation of the Stay and Train Program?

Calmness training is the foundation of the TASAA Stay and Train Program and underpins every aspect of a puppy’s development while in our care.

Rather than focusing only on obedience cues, calmness training teaches puppies how to settle, pause and think before responding to their environment. Through structured routines, crate training, guided rest periods and consistent training markers, puppies learn how to regulate their arousal levels and transition smoothly between activity and rest.

This ability to settle is central to developing a confident, well mannered family dog. A puppy that can remain calm is more capable of making clear decisions, responding appropriately to guidance and navigating new environments without becoming easily overwhelmed.

Calmness also supports independence. Puppies are taught to rest comfortably on their own, which helps build confidence during separation from their family and can reduce the likelihood of stress based behaviours developing.

At TASAA, calmness is not an add on skill. It is the structure through which all other training is introduced, making it a key foundation for a stable, confident and well behaved dog.

What does a puppy learn during the 28 day Stay and Train Program?

During the program puppies are introduced to calm daily routines, early obedience foundations, lead handling and recall introduction.

All puppies are crate trained as part of the program and are guided through structured rest periods and independent settling. Puppies also receive supervised exposure to household environments and other animals where appropriate.

Training is age appropriate and designed to support continued learning once the puppy returns home.

Where do puppies live during the Stay and Train Program?

Puppies live at TASAA’s purpose built training facility located at Nikki’s home in Samford Valley, Brisbane, Queensland.

The facility includes the fully air conditioned Puppy Bunkhouse, dedicated indoor training areas, a secure puppy play yard affectionately known as the Lion’s Den and several acres of grassed yard where puppies participate in supervised exercise, structured activities and free play.

The training facility and surrounding areas are covered by CCTV and the property is securely triple fenced. Puppies are supervised by TASAA staff and follow a structured daily routine throughout their stay.

Who trains the puppies?

All training is delivered by employed TASAA dog trainers under Nikki’s direct supervision. TASAA does not use contract trainers.

Each puppy’s progress is documented daily and all trainers follow the same structured training system using consistent markers and cues to maintain clarity throughout the program.
